Ahmed Kady’s interest in auctions and antiques began in childhood. His renovation of two 1930s apartments on Adly Street focused on preserving their original residential character. He is drawn to late Art Deco’s shift toward early Bauhaus: clean lines, strong forms, and balanced proportions.

The year-long process prioritized a lived-in feel. Original parquet was restored and matched with reclaimed wood. Many furniture pieces came from auctions, including lamps and wall appliqués from the former Nile Hilton Hotel.

Kady emphasizes that mid-20th-century Egypt was both a market for European design and a site of skilled local production. Pieces that appear French were often crafted by Egyptian workshops. Preserving this craftsmanship guides his work at Third Space Gallery, where restoration remains slow, layered, and material-focused.
