Founded in 1940, Behman Psychiatric Hospital in Helwan commissioned designer Mariam Magdy to repurpose one of its buildings into a museum. The low-rise structure now houses objects tracing the evolution of psychiatric medicine: switchboard systems, nurses' records, medical tools, and machinery once considered revolutionary. After cataloging the collection and learning its history from doctors and staff, Magdy designed custom display units built in the hospital's own wood workshop, drawing primarily from on-site resources.
